For a lot of us, “summer camp” means camping and crafts, s’mores and campfires, bug spray and enjoying the outdoors. But last week, we had a different type of summer camp join us at Blend — the EmBe Girl Ignited Leadership Camp.
The camp is designed to give young girls an opportunity to learn what leadership means by visiting with women in the Sioux Falls community who hold leadership positions in non-traditional careers paths.
Chief Operating Officer Jessica Hutchinson spent an hour alongside the girls sharing how she grew into her role as a leader at Blend, and providing them with support as they become future leaders themselves.
“Programs like this are crucial for young women as they start exploring different career paths,” says Jess. “It’s great for them to see the different opportunities ahead. I had a wonderful time visiting with the girls about what leadership means to me, and supporting them as they continue to grow into leaders among their peers, at school, and in the community.”
Their visit consisted of a tour of our space, a presentation about who Blend is and what we do, and questions for Jess about her role in the company (and a few about her ever changing hair color). As a special treat, she even shared some photos of her annual birthday sweater.
