Bringing Rebates for Energy-Efficiency to Light

Using Umbraco to create composite content for a region-wide energy rebate system, Blend designed a bright and energetic site.

To put it as simply as possible, Bright Energy Solutions — an initiative of Missouri River Energy Services — promotes and educates customers about energy efficiency through a set of product rebates and efficiency education. As rebates and resources are developed by utility companies throughout the year, the Bright Energy Solutions program consolidates them into a central repository, allowing municipalities to easily find related rebates.

Umbraco at Blend

For Missouri River Energy Services, this means coordinating a complex content model of coupons and offers within a single site. This is where Blend came in, developing a new Umbraco install that allowed for an object-based approach to creating rebates. Objects were pieced together based on location and other meta information, providing both a location-specific rebate and a more centralized editorial experience.

The experience was more than just the complex content model – it also included the interpretation of both energy-efficient products and renewable energy. Blend’s design for the Bright Energy Solutions site was focused on just that: bright and energetic. Playing these colors off with bold layout and usable content helped create a sense of ease and direction.

Finally, we developed a method to help anticipate a visitor’s location through community-specific URLs and geolocation. This not only helped filter out non-relevant rebates, but it also helped fuel a dealer directory of companies that helped fulfill the rebates themselves.

In the end, the new Bright Energy Solutions site was interconnected, bright, and usable, promising easy access to energy-focused rebates … and a “greener” life for years to come.
