How Let’s Skate Moved From a Single Campaign to a Community Brand

From a one-off campaign to the future of the skate community in Sioux Falls, Let’s Skate looked to Blend to help ensure their online message was clear and ready to transmit.

  • Let's Skate

It’s the 21st century, which means that in order for a movement or initiative to be taken seriously, it’s got to have a web presence. Over the past few years, Blend has played a part in helping make the dream of Sioux Falls’ first professionally designed skatepark come true and helped usher in the next phase of skateboarding in our great city.

Let’s Skate — a volunteer organization focused on supporting the skate community in Sioux Falls — began with a simple dream: to build a skatepark that would rival the best in the world. The dream came with a million-dollar-plus price tag, which means Let’s Skate’s focus was drumming up support, finding sponsors, and promoting events that would help bring some reality to the skatepark sketches and schemas already in place.

Blend began by helping create a one-off campaign site focused on raising money for the new skatepark. Quickly built as a headless site, the Let’s Skate site was ideally suited for the first stage of its life: a holding pen for donor recognition and messaging for the ongoing skate project.

And that skate project was a success! Opening in the summer of 2024, the new Barb Iverson Skate Plaza has become a central meeting point for newcomers and seasoned skate veterans. But, opening a skatepark meant Let’s Skate faced a harsh reality: Now what?

The answer was to expand and focus on the skate community as a whole. With the fundraising site having served its ultimate purpose, Blend worked with Let’s Skate to help design and build a more permanent and extendable site for the organization as a whole. Built in Umbraco and intended to reflect the aesthetic of Sioux Falls’ skate culture, the new Let’s Skate site has taken the dream of the initial site and layered it on top of modern CMS usability, allowing the volunteer-run organization to easily maintain its message as it begins the next phase of its life.

Just as young skaters grow into their skills, the new Let’s Skate site is set up for the future, whatever that future might be. We’re excited to see what’s next and proud to have helped in any way we could.

Project results.

  • Translation of existing branding into a headless campaign site
  • Adaptation of the headless campaign site into a more traditional Umbraco site
  • Full design, development, and launch of Let’s Skate’s online identity
